Melissa Whiteside

PE & Digital Media Teacher

Originally from South Africa, Melissa earned her bachelor’s degree in education at the University of South Africa, specializing in early childhood development. She then decided to travel the world, immersing herself in diverse cultures and sharing her skills. Teaching ESL in Thailand was a high point in her journey.

Melissa enjoys getting outside, playing hockey, running and swimming. Her love for sports and the outdoors has always been a driving force in her life. This has influenced her teaching philosophy, as she recognizes the significance of a balanced approach to education. In 2022, Melissa moved to Canada and found her home away from home at Tanbridge Academy. Starting as a grade two teacher, Melissa has since expanded her role to encompass digital media, leadership, and physical education. Her classes are not just about sharing knowledge but incorporating fun and games and encouraging her students to explore their interests and passions. Melissa is active in Tanbridge’s learning community. She creates an engaging and inclusive environment. The connections she makes with her students are a top priority, ensuring each student feels valued and heard.

Melissa is grateful for the opportunity to work at Tanbridge Academy, where she can merge her passion for teaching with her love for sports and the outdoors. With a caring and supportive community by her side, Melissa is dedicated to making a positive impact on every student she encounters, one lesson at a time.
