Our Soccer Program
Tanbridge Academy offers a comprehensive skill development program for all students in grades 4 through 9. Students are provided the opportunity to follow their passion by participating in three training sessions each week during regular school hours. Through this combination of rigorous academic and athletic programs, aspiring athletes are taught the skills necessary for success on and off the field.
Our Skill Development program is open to any student who is passionate about their sport, regardless of their current skill level. Athletes are exposed to expert coaching and instruction that allows them to improve their abilities and experience success.
When and where does the Soccer Program take place?
The grade 4-9 students will have their soccer training at the Foothills Field House.
Grade 1-3 - Tuesdays only from 10:00-11:00
Grade 4-9 - Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 9:00-10:00
What instruction is received?
Students in our Soccer program participate in high intensity training sessions that focus on dribbling, first touch, ball mastery, passing, defending, and heading. In addition, students are exposed to tactical applications, group defending, and team play.
How many hours of technical soccer training does your child receive?
Students receive approximately 96 hours of technical soccer training per year. Training includes a strength and conditioning component. The program encourages well-rounded fitness by focusing on speed, agility, flexibility, strength, and endurance (approximately 25 hours/year) and is taught by a professional strength and conditioning coach.
Who are the soccer coaches?
Ramon Mifflin and Jamieson Sawka from Foothills Soccer Club will be running the soccer program.
As a youth player, Ramon was part of the United States Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program and represented California on their state team. He then went on to play NCAA Division 1 soccer at the University of San Francisco.
After college, he played professionally in the US and Peru’s first-division club Carlos Manucci. Ramon is currently the boy’s technical director at Blizzard Soccer Club and the men’s assistant coach at Mount Royal University. He has led seven Tier 1 teams to provincial gold medals and six national medals.
Jamieson spent his entire youth playing soccer in Calgary, where he was born and raised. He started coaching the game at 17 and joined Foothills Soccer Club in 2012, starting as a volunteer coach.
Jamieson was the Grassroots Coordinator and an Academy Coach before the club appointed him as the full-time Performance Manager in September 2021, where he focused on optimizing player performance and development throughout the organization.
We are proud of the commitment and success of our athletes. As a small school, we have had tremendous success in helping our students play at an elite level. Many former Tanbridge Academy students have excelled athletically following their development in our program. In addition to the countless players who have competed at an elite level in Calgary, several currently compete across North America and on NCAA soccer scholarships.
