Kacey Otto

Grade 4/5 & Elementary PE Teacher

Kacey Otto graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree and a Bachelor of Education degree, specializing in elementary education. She was a member and captain of the University of Alberta varsity women’s volleyball team. This experience gave her insight into living and excelling as a student-athlete. After moving back to Calgary, Kacey began teaching at Tanbridge Academy amongst a great team. Along with her elementary and physical education teaching responsibilities, she also works with some of the junior high sports teams and has worked as a coach in the community for several years. Outside of school, she enjoys being active and spending time with family and friends. You can often find her playing volleyball, coaching, and enjoying the outdoors.

Kacey finds working as a teacher incredibly fulfilling. In particular, she enjoys being able to watch students grow, make connections, and try new things. She loves having the opportunity to work with students of various ages and interests. She believes it is one of the few careers in which you are able to be so closely involved in the lives of those you work with and have an opportunity to impact them daily. Kacey believes in creating a positive and collaborative working environment for students. If you were to look into Kacey’s classroom, students are often seen working with their peers and learning from each other, making her classroom an enjoyable place to be. To account for different learning styles, she works to present her lessons in a variety of ways. Kacey also works to instill and encourage leadership skills in her students on a daily basis.

Kacey believes Tanbridge Academy is a wonderful place to work. Growing up participating in athletics, she really appreciates the teamwork aspects of the school. She finds the environment of the school is a positive, supportive, and collaborative one. She thinks it is great to see students find new areas they are passionate about as they are provided with a number of unique opportunities to try new things and demonstrate new leadership skills. Kacey enjoys working at Tanbridge Academy, as she feels she is better able to meet the needs of each student and work more closely with them all due to the smaller class sizes offered at the school.
