Emily Short

Junior High Teacher

Emily holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta, majoring in Physical Education. Originally from Yellowknife, NWT, she grew up immersed in sport—playing a wide range of activities and competing competitively in hockey and soccer. From a young age, she was actively involved in her community, coaching both school and local sports teams, which helped spark her passion for teaching and mentorship. While attending university, Emily also worked part-time with the Edmonton Oilers organization, gaining experience in the world of professional sport and reinforcing her love of teamwork and community.

Over the past five years, Emily has taught a wide range of subjects and grade levels, working with a diverse group of students. She brings an energetic and encouraging presence to her classroom, focusing on building confidence and curiosity in every student. Whether indoors or outdoors, she believes in the importance of movement and making real-world connections in learning. Her goal is to help students develop strong character, perseverance, and a love of staying active skills that extend far beyond the school setting.

Outside of school, Emily enjoys staying active through hiking, biking, running, or walking her dog, Riggins. She also values spending quality time with family and friends and loves to travel during her time off.

Emily is excited to join Tanbridge Academy, a community that aligns closely with her own philosophy on physical literacy, student growth, and teamwork. She is eager to contribute to Tanbridge's vibrant and supportive environment, where smaller class sizes provide the opportunity to work closely with students and support their development in all areas.
