Sarah Kriston
Vice Principal / Junior High Humanities Teacher
Sarah Kriston was born and raised on the East Coast of Canada, but she made the move west out to Calgary to start her teaching career after obtaining her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick. After two years of teaching at another private school in the city, she joined the Tanbridge team several years ago, mainly teaching grade five and some complementary courses across grade levels, before moving into her current role. Outside of school, Sarah enjoys chasing after her young daughter, curling, reading, and travelling back to the East Coast to visit family.
Sarah’s passion for teaching has always been driven by her love for literature and her passion for working with children. While she loves teaching all subjects and developing cross-curricular connections in her classroom, she is especially passionate about sharing her love for literature with her students, inspiring them to find stories and characters they can make connections with. She works to build positive relationships with her students, getting to know their interests outside of the classroom and finding ways to incorporate those interests into her students’ learning. She enjoys watching her students grow as learners and develop their critical thinking skills throughout the year.
A lifelong learner herself, Sarah obtained a Leadership in Learning M.Ed. degree from the University of Prince Edward Island. Throughout her courses, she was able to continue learning about current best teaching practices while also collaborating with and learning from established teachers located around the world. She also has her level one Google Educator certification and is dedicated to promoting digital citizenship in her classes. Motivated to gain a better understanding of topics she is interested in, Sarah hopes to inspire her students to also be actively engaged with their own learning.
The small-town community feel of the school is Sarah’s favourite part of being a member of the Tanbridge team. She truly feels they are a team that collaborates with and supports one another across all grade levels. She loves how staff and students all know one another and work toward the common goal of making the whole school community the best it can be through a positive education model. With everyone being so actively involved in the school, Sarah believes everyone is inspired to be the best possible version of themselves, and she is so grateful to be part of the Tanbridge community.
