Donna Anton

After School Program Director

Donna Anton is a retired teacher who has attended to the raising, educating, and nurturing of children her entire life. She is a graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, first working as a grade 3 teacher in Sherwood Park, AB. She raised two beautiful daughters, the youngest of whom works alongside her at Tanbridge Academy. Her oldest daughter is a lecturer at Mt. Royal University. Teaching is in the family blood.

After substituting and volunteering at her own children’s schools she went overseas to teach English in Taiwan. Upon her return she continued with ESL to children and adults at many venues in Calgary. She was also a child care provider for a private company in Calgary. With a move to Cape Breton, NS, she taught 4 grades (gr. 3-6 inclusive) in one of Canada’s smallest 2-room remote rural schools (gr. K-6), later to become principal. Differentiated instruction was key to managing all ages simultaneously which relates to managing and coordinating all ages (3 – 12 years inclusive) at Tanbridge Academy.

Being supervisor of Tanbridge Academy’s after school program allows Donna to continue using her years of experience when it comes to the rearing of children. As a believer in the saying, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’, she uses her skills to help guide children through their natural abilities to play. This includes life skills like problem solving, cooperating with others, and showing respect to all.

Donna feels that Tanbridge Academy is similar to her past experience at the small Cape Breton school where the atmosphere has a sense of community that feels like family.
